How do you ensure your cotton is ethically sourced?
At Farnico, the ethical sourcing of our cotton is at the forefront of our mission. Cotton is the perfect crop to source ethically as it’s easy to grow and doesn’t require huge expanses of land, and we guarantee the well-being of both our farmers and the environment in a number of ways:
- Quality Seeds and Organic Fertilizers: We kickstart the process by providing our farmers with high-quality organic seeds and organic fertilizers, as well as training and certification services. This creates an excellent foundation for growth and promotes sustainable farming practices that are gentle on the environment.
- Biological Pest Control: To eliminate the need for synthetic chemicals, we grow and release bio-insects to effectively manage pests without resorting to harmful pesticides.
- Crop Rotation: Regular crop rotation allows land to recover and regenerate after each harvest, maximizing its use by preventing soil depletion and contributing to the long-term health of the soil.
- Fair Compensation: Using our extensive market connections, we secure the best international market prices for the organic and regenerative cotton to ensure that our farmers receive fair compensation for their hard work. This, in turn, provides economic stability and encourages younger generations to remain in their communities as their family plots become a source of reliable income. This leads to happier households and contributes to positive development of the country.
We have an open-door policy and welcome anyone to visit our fields to see for themselves how we work. If you’re visiting Tajikistan and would like to see our operations first-hand, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Why is cotton so important?
Cotton is a safe, natural fibre that’s gentle on the skin and lasts for years, yet most of our clothing is made from synthetic substances which aren’t sustainable in the long-run. The production of these products is damaging to the earth and produces more pollution, with many products being made using non-renewable resources which can take centuries to decompose in landfills. Cotton is the only natural option that can be produced using sustainable methods that not only protects the environment but benefits and empowers the farmers that grow it.
What certifications do you have?
At Farnico, we’re proud to hold a number of organic certifications.
For our organic and regenerative agriculture:
- EU Organic
- USDA NOP
For our processing, storing and trading: GOTS
We have an event we think Farnico would be great for. How can we get you involved?
Get in touch! We’d be happy to share our knowledge and experience on sustainable and regenerative practices and are always open to new collaborations with brands and events we admire.
Empower farmers in Tajikistan with ethically sourced cotton fibre.
